THE VISION

It is rare for people of color to find financially accessible movement healing spaces. Most conscious dance floors are predominantly white. Movement Liberation directly supports BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) to participate in workshops and retreats facilitated by Valerie Chafograck and other educators of color. Movement Liberation offers embodied and somatic healing workshops and retreats for people of color. Through the practice of somatic mindfulness, liberated movement and dance, social and racial justice education, and connection with nature, we create safe spaces in which BIPOC can regenerate their very roots, and cultivate wellbeing and resiliency within a supportive community.

We believe in a world that celebrates racial equity and diversity, in which all people of color are free in their bodies,
empowered in their self-expression, and connected to the richness of their ancestry and the brilliant potential of future generations.

Please consider becoming a racial and healing justice ally by donating to our Movement Liberation GoFundMe campaign.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your contribution towards collective liberation.

JOIN THE MOVEMENT

During this time of immense social and environmental upheaval, it is vital that embodiment education be accessible to all communities, especially those most impacted by systemic oppression. Movement Liberation is fundraising to provide scholarships to all BIPOC dancers. To understand the relevance of creating financially accessible healing spaces for BIPOC, we must examine the political historical context of our country. The United States was founded by white supremacy, genocide, and slave labor. Though contributing a personal donation does not substitute the need for our government to pay reparations at a federal level for the centuries of intentional economic deprivation of black and brown communities, your participation in our efforts is a step that will directly benefit those who are most impacted by this reality. This time of political reckoning in the United States is asking those who benefit from the country’s legacy of violence and slave labor to re-distribute resources to where they were taken from. Each of us has a part to play in righting the wrongs of ancestors by moving forward with dignity in a commitment to the praxis of right relationship.

One of the more effective ways white folks, and all folks, can participate in efforts for racial equity in our communities is to
redistribute money and time towards Black and Indigenous women and femme - led justice initiatives.

Please consider becoming a racial and healing justice ally by donating to our Movement Liberation scholarship fund for People of Color
through our fiscal sponsor, Commonweal.

Another way to support our efforts is by becoming a Patron of Movement Liberation on Patreon.

5% of all Movement Liberation retreat and workshop profits will be contributed as a Shuumi Land Tax to support the work of the Sogorea Te’ Land Trust.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your contribution towards collective liberation.

Valerie’s ‘We Are Our Ancestor’s Wildest Dream’ POC dance workshops are a life-changing experience. Folks like myself (black, transgender, masculine of center, introvert) need spaces like this in order to regroup, center, and reaffirm our sense of self in a space that recognizes our full selves, in our wholeness. At each workshop, I am delighted to realize there is a community of dancers of color that is safe, accepting, non-judgmental, supportive, and that can get down! The playlists are off the chain, the teaching team is incredible, the positive and respectful community envelops you, and a space is created that allows one the freedom to be exactly as you are.
